Sifu Frank Mechler started his martial arts training at the age of 6 years old and since then his passion for the martial arts has never stopped growing. Over his life time he has trained in judo (junior brown belt), Tae Kwon Do (Black Belt), Boxing (Amateur), Muay Thai (Red Singlet), Choy Lee Fut Freestyle Kung Fu (master level). He has fought full contact in Boxing, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, Kung Fu and MMA.
The most significant years of his training were under the guidance of Sifu Paul Quinn with whom he was trained and mentored by for over 12 years. Sifu Paul and Sifu Frank set up the Choy Lee Fut Freestyle Kung Fu Academy together which ran for several years and trained many hundreds of students. However Sifu Paul had his own journey to go on and the school was eventually closed.
It was time for Sifu Frank to take his learning to the next level by doing what Sifu Paul said needed to be done…“Evolve the Kung Fu he had been taught and create his own version of Freestyle Kung Fu”
You see in Kung Fu there are over 3000 known different styles, as the Chinese Philosophy is that everything gets better with time. There is no one style that has all the answers. Sifu Frank, through over 35 years of martial arts training, teaching and competitions, has come to realise that we were never meant to be trained like robots; but like the individuals that we are.
It was the great Bruce Lee that said it best…“An individual’s natural creativity is more important than any set system or style. However you must have a solid foundation for your creativity to flow from.”
And so, after many years of breaking down all his years of learning and training, on the 3rd March 2007 The Freestyle Kung Fu Academy was born.
When you come and train with Sifu Frank at the Freestyle Kung Fu Academy you will quickly realise the wealth of knowledge he has to offer and the passion and enthusiasm he has for teaching and sharing his life of experiences. It does not matter if you are 4 or 64 he can show you how Freestyle Kung Fu can improve your life.
“In the beginning Kung Fu is just something that you do. But eventually, if you persist, Kung Fu will become part of who you are and then no one can ever take it away from you.” -Sifu Frank Mechler
